Fan’s Choice – Las Vegas! – Dos Caminos

Sometimes it is hard to come up with new places to try so we decided to get recommendations from Saturday Night Foodies’ fans, when we started planning a trip to Las Vegas.

The first suggestions for Vegas were Dos Caminos, Pink Taco, “Anything Bobby Flay” and Hash House a Go Go. We visited all but one on this trip. We have been to Pink Taco at the Hard Rock Hotel several times so we left it off our list. To be fair, Pink Taco is always a lot of fun and I highly recommend it.

Our first stop was Dos Caminos at the Palazzo Hotel. This is a trendy high-end Mexican restaurant that is right off the lobby. We were looking forward to checking it out. However when we got there I realized that I had been there before on business trip, where I enjoyed the various tequilas. I hardly remember that night! We got to the restaurant about 9:30. They were not packed but there was already a wait for the dining room. We opted to grab seats at their very large bar, which went from the front of the restaurant all the way to the back. The decor was the best part about this place, from the long distressed wood-carved bar to the huge mural of a grave yard painted in deep reds and oranges, with 3 dimensional wrought iron tombstones popping from the walls. Picture Dios de los Muertos (day of the dead) meets Nightmare before Christmas. We ordered a margarita, a passion fruit martini and the Ceviche Trio appetizer, which was a tasting of their Tuna, Oyster and Lobster ceviches.

Ceviche Trio

The drinks and the trio were both good. The Ceviche Trio was a very attractive dish. The tuna tasted more like a Hawaiian Ahi “Poke”, which worked for us. The oyster was on the half shell and very fresh. The lobster ceviche was made from a Maine lobster and was our favorite. We were also served chips with three kinds of salsa – a salsa verde, habanero and a smoky, chipotle. The salsas were good but the chips were nothing special so that was a bit of a let down.

Salsa and Chips

The place was nice but we just weren’t feeling it. There was kind of a weird vibe while at the bar so we decided to move on. Besides, we had other places to visit!! In the future I would like to check out their dinners but no rush.

If there is a place you have been thinking about trying but were not sure, check out www.yelp.com or you can always suggest it to us and we will try it for you! We are always up for a good food adventure! Don’t forget to post your recommendations on our Facebook page!
